A meno di un mese dall’evento sono stati comunicati tutti i candidati al The Game Awards 2021. Oltre trenta categorie tra quelle legate al genere di appartenenza e quelle più tecniche. I premi saranno assegnati in base ai giudizi espressi dalla stampa di settore e dagli appassionati. In seguito alla comunicazione delle nominations è stato aperto il sistema di voto dedicato alla community sul sito della manifestazione.
Come dicevamo le categorie sono trenta e comprendono anche il mondo dell’esport come nel caso di Miglior Atleta o di Miglior Team. Ovviamente però le nominations a cui tutti hanno fatto più attenzione sono quelle per il titolo di GOTY (Game of the Year). Per il premio più prestigioso troviamo in lizza: Death Loop di Arkane Studios, l’ambizioso sparatutto immerso nei loop temporali; il sorprendente cooperativo It Takes Two; il ritorno di un grande classico come Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart; uno dei titoli più attesi dell’anno Resident Evil Village, ottavo capitolo dell’amata saga horror; infine Psychonauts 2 e Metroid Dread.
Ovviamente spicca come questa cinquina, nonostante abbia una buona qualità, non sia particolarmente di richiamo. Situazione figlia dei continui rimandi a causa dei rallentamenti dovuti alla pandemia. Nonostante questa premessa alcune mancanze stanno facendo molto discutere in queste ore. Tra i titoli non nominati a miglior gioco di questi The Game Awards 2021 ci sono infatti due giochi come Forza Horizon 5 e Returnal. Specialmente l’esclusione del gioco di guida a esclusiva microsoft, che ricordiamo sta macinando milioni di giocatori nonostante un lancio estremamente recente. Il titolo tra l’altro era perfettamente eleggibile per il premio essendo uscito prima del 19 novembre, infatti è presente in altre categorie.
L’evento, che ricordiamo essere il principale appuntamento legato alla premiazione nell’industria videoludica, si terrà il 9 dicembre al Microsoft Theater di Los Angeles. Una premiazione che si terrà quindi dal vivo a differenza dell’edizione 2020 che, per le ovvie ragioni a noi note, si è svolta da remoto totalizzando ben 83 milioni di visualizzazioni in tutto il mondo. Geoff Keighley, fondatore della rassegna di premi, ha comunicato che durante la premiazione verranno presentati oltre 40 prime mondiali, tra titoli già noti e inediti.
